Turtle Power!
Linda is frugal in a lot of ways, and in many ways she isn't. If it's a vacation with the family, Christmas or birthday presents, or a watch she has had her eye on for months, she'll usually spend money. There are other things that she'll make last as long as possible. All the kitchen appliances were over 25 years old and either totally broken or on their last legs when she replaced them. (The stove was actually a freebie from Tierney's townhouse.) She had the same ironing board for her whole life and then some, it was her Mothers when she was a girl from the 1940's. It broke last year and she has yet to replace it. You can iron just fine on the floor using a folded up beach towel (as long as your careful!) All the towels are fraying to bits. The sheets are just embarrassing. Since she is the only one who sees them, she figured they could last a few more years. There are two sets, one set is over 20 years old and the other about 15 years old. There are also some random pillowcases she uses. This evening, she was changing the sheets and just stopped dead in her tracks. She realized she was still using Taylor's old Ninja Turtle pillowcase from when he was a toddler. That did it. She got her shoes on and went to the department store and purchased a beautiful set of 500 count damask sheets in luxurious black. There were 600-1200 count sheets to pick from, but after what she had been sleeping on, the 500 felt like clouds. Next on her replacement list, some new towels. She just didn't want to shock her system and replace too much at once!
