Warning: Graphic Story (Updated)
This is such a sad, sad story that I'm hesitant to blog about it. The only reason I am is that the incident is so bizarre, I can't skip over it. Schools are closed in eastern Ohio today, but not from bad weather or broken water pipes. They are closed because lions, tigers, bears, cheetahs, wolves, giraffes and camels (48 animals in all) are prowling around the school. The animals escaped a preserve following the death of its owner. Some of the animals have been spotted along the main highway. (How a giraffe was able to jump over a tall fence is not explained. Sounds like someone let them all loose.) What is so sad is that the Muskingum Sheriff department is armed with shotguns and night vision goggles and they are shooting all the animals dead! What!? Can't they just tranquilize them and take them to another zoo? Linda hit a cat who darted out of the woods last night and she was traumatized. There was so way she could have avoided the kitty since it happened so fast and there wasn't enough time to react. I can't imagine someone shooting a giraffe or a camel on purpose. It makes me so mad.... I'm steaming about it!! UPDATE: More news coming forth. Looks like the owner committed suicide and let the animals go before he did it. Also, the authorities are saying they are only shooting the animals dead at night, but in the day they will use tranquilizer guns. If the guy loved his animals and did not want them to starve, why not call or send someone a letter to take care of his critters when he was gone? Also, lots of people at the gym were laughing about it and thought it funny. I guess maybe I'm (meaning Linda) a little too sensitive when it comes to killing animals needlessly.
