Be Safe!

Please, please, please don't take your dog to the fireworks display tonight thinking they will like it.  They won't.  Also, don't keep them outside where there is a chance they could escape.  Linda will have us both tucked in our beds way before the explosions start.  Even dogs who normally won't leave the yard will bolt if frightened by the boom-booms.  Also, there are a lot of people who play with fireworks, sometimes with alcohol involved.  Linda's cousin lost a finger in a backyard fireworks accident.  Linda wishes that all home fireworks of any kind were outlawed and just the professionals could set them off.  (Not a popular opinion among her friends and family though.) The best way to celebrate July 4th is to find someone who served for our country and thank them from the bottom of your heart, not set off cherry bombs (or whatever they are called.)

Since it is the 4th of July, we all got to sleep in this morning.  Chip started her caterwauling at 6:00 a.m. like usual, but she gave it up after 10 minutes and went back to sleep.  It was the first day in months that Linda didn't have to set the alarm to wake up at a certain time.  Even weekends are early days in this house.  It's also the first time in forever that Linda hasn't had to teach at least one class . (Except for Sunday.  She never takes a class or sub on that day.)  Her "to do" list is a mile long, but she isn't going to stress if some of it does not get done. The housework, laundry and deck clean-up should only take a few hours.  At 12:00 she is going to the church picnic.  Chim will probably go with her since the heat does not really bother him.  I might go into seizures if I was outside today for more than a 1/2 hour.  It's weird how the temperature can trigger my condition.  I'm sure someone will give him a leftover BBQ rib bone to chew on if he's a good dog.  Maybe he can take a dip in the pond to cool off too!  He loves the bathtub, so Linda is curious to see if he'll like swimming.  There is a pier out into the water  It would be so cool if he is one of those dogs who will sprint down the pier and then go flying into the water.

I cans so see Chimi doing this!
