Yes, it's a true syndrome. According to the University of Va., people who are allergic to cats should also beware of pigs...well, actually porky kinds of food. In a study delivered at American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, the protein albumin is found both in cat dander and pork meats. Almost all the people in the test who reacted with pork-cat syndrome were women. They developed swelling of the mouth, lips and tongue, broke out in hives and two had anaphylaxis (which is deadly.) Not everyone who is allergic to cats has the pork-cat syndrome. I just love typing that.... pork-cat; pork-cat; pork-cat.
