I'll Take the Treat

In a few days it will be Halloween.  To some, it's the best "holiday" of the year.  People (I'm talking adults here) enjoy dressing up and going to bars to celebrate.  There is a place near us called Georgetown.  If you happen to go to Georgetown on Halloween, be prepared for clogged streets, stopped traffic and a ton of people all dressed up in costumes going bar hopping.  To my knowledge, kids are still allowed to dress up in outfits and go to school on that day. (But schools can't decorate the classrooms for Christmas?  What if Halloween offends someones religion? What if every kid on Halloween dressed up as a Bible character or in full burkas? Would they be sent home to get their zombie and witches costumes on instead?)

I'm just a lowly shepherd.

On matters like this, we could care less what everyone else in the world does.  Trick or Treating was never one of Linda's favorite things when she was little. It was so much work getting candy that her parents would confiscate anyway to look for razor blades and poison. (This was in the 60's when that was all the fear.)  Tierney went once when she was 2 and Taylor has never been.  I know, you are thinking what a horrible Mom Linda was.  But wait, there's more.  She also does not put put up a Christmas tree or decorate for Thanksgiving/Easter.  She's never made a turkey in her life.  An Easter ham... nope.  Our family still has traditions they've done for years, they are just different than most people.  One is breakfast at iHop on Thanksgiving and Christmas morning.  It's something that they all look forward to and always have a blast! Another one is putting some of the same exact presents in the stockings for 10 years running! (I mean the same exact present. Linda takes it back and re-wraps it for next year! They laugh so hard each time the present gets opened, even though they are expecting it!)   The next one is finding a funny substitute Christmas tree.  It's been a small cactus, a palm tree, stuffed Christmas bears from Starbucks piled on top of each other, (Tier, help me remember some more.)  Even though most people would find that strange (there are friends of Linda's who are probably already thinking about their Christmas decorating ideas already) Tierney and Taylor (and now Sarah and Penny) still love the quirky ways at Mom's house.

There is one Halloween tradition Linda does love!  The Pumpkin Roll cake that the
Bagel Cafe sells around Halloween.  Yum!!
Now that's a Treat!
