Sorry Charlie!

Linda is super excited about a book reviewed in the Post today called "Thanking the Monkey" by Karen Dawn. It is about rethinking the way we treat animals. Karen is a vegan (just like Linda) and a scientist (not like Linda). Karen believes that humanity is evolving toward total vegetarianism. As more and more people populate the planet and China slowly is switching to an American style diet, we will run out of land (to grow feed) to keep all the cows alive. The earth could feed 2.5 billion people on a standard American diet and 10 billion vegetarians! She also explains that buying "organic" meat does not mean the animals were treated better then Big Mac meat. Go visit her website and see for yourself: www.thankingthemonkey.com. She is doing a book signing tomorrow night, but it is far away in Maryland and we are too poor to pay for the gas to get there. There is some solace in the way one Japanese fish company does business. Prior to killing the tuna, the president of Osakana Planning Fish Co. has his workers administer acupuncture to each fish prior to its death in order to reduce the fishes stress, thus producing superior sushi.
