New Jersey has passed a law that all dogs must be buckled-up in seat belts while riding in a car. Actually, the clip did not say riding in a car, it said while
driving the car. Here is the quote: "You should not be driving down the road under any circumstances with a
dog driving the car,” said Elyse Coffey, a spokesperson for the New
Jersey MVC. “ I guess we'll be OK then if we ever take a trip to NJ since neither Chim or I have our drivers licenses and our paws are too short to reach the gas peddle. The fine is $1,000 for each offense. You will also get ticketed if your dog is in the back of a pickup truck. Linda is torn on this law. Pets can get injured and become projectiles in a crash. It's dangerous to drive with a dog 1/2 way hanging out the window or sliding around in a pickup bed. There are folks who even drive with the dogs head hanging out the drivers side window. Both Chim and I lay down on the seat and stay very quite. (I've learned to do it and Chim is just so scared of riding in a car that he just lays there frozen in fear.) Linda has investigated dog car seats before, maybe she'll revisit it.
