Coloring Outside the Lines

Just like these
There is a machine at Linda's bank where you dump all your spare change. Out pops a receipt that you take to the teller and you can deposit the $ into your account or get cash.  What a handy idea!  Linda read an article this morning about Coinstar, a machine that does the same thing, and Marriott partnering up.  Now you can get a receipt good towards a room at the Marriott.  If you don't have a trip planned, you can use it in their restaurants or spa.  Gosh, what if you lose your receipt? No thanks.  Linda did it the old fashioned way, and had an amazing vacation... the first one she ever took Tierney and Taylor on by herself. She was very excited to take them somewhere fun, but did NOT want to run up a balance on her credit card and get into debt.  For a whole year, all the spare change and bills went into two 3' tall crayon banks. They all contributed, even if it was a quarter.  If Linda had extra $ after the bills were paid, into the crayon it went.  The crayon banks were triple taped shut with masking and electrical tape so they weren't tempted to take money out when times were lean. A month before they were going to plan their vacation, all the money was dumped onto the floor and hand rolled.  The grand total:  Over $1,000!  There was enough for a trip to Disney! (with a little extra pitched in from Linda's savings.)  They did the same thing a few more times and were able to take 2 more Disney trips-Disney cruises!  Starting today, she is going to find something a new piggy bank and start another vacation fund.  Disney anyone??
P.S.  I know, many of you are saying "But Linda, you could have earned interest in a bank or investment account."  She's always had unorthodox ways of saving and pre-paying some bills.  Just call it coloring outside the lines.
