I'm not sure if any of my running friends were planning on doing the NYC marathon this year, but by now everyone knows it was canceled. People from all over the world came to NY to run the 26 mile race, only to find it canceled at the last minute because of the storm damage. During the news interviews, some runners were mad it wasn't being held and whined. Others made their own little race around Central Park. But a group lead by a Doctor decided to put their love of running to good use. They loaded backpacks with things like prepaid cellphones, baby items, hygiene supplies and gift cards, then took off on foot to deliver the supplies to some of the hardest hit areas. It's so amazing that people from all over the world got a chance to help the storm victims, many who have lost everything.
Linda has never run a marathon, and there is no chance she ever will. Her bionic knee is fine for teaching classes, walking and hiking but it's not really good for long distances of pounding on concrete. Plus, she thinks it would be really time consuming training for a marathon. And there's that whole endurance issue too. Teaching 5 hours in one day, even though you are working really hard, is different because it's split in 2 or sometimes 3 segments with rest time in between. Chim would be an awesome training partner though since he doesn't have an off switch and can run like the wind.
