Blast from the Past

This photo so made Linda laugh.  She was doing a TKD demo at a local festival years ago.  She doesn't know the exact date, maybe about 12 years ago?  I hope it was on the 4th of July because if not.. that choice of Gi is hysterical.  She'll have to check her old uniforms to see if she still has it for this July 4th!   Her team also did a Cardio Kickboxing demo.  This was before any of the gyms were doing Body Combat. (They also filmed TV Kickboxing workouts that were on the local cable channel.)  Linda choreographed all her own routines.  Check out her front kick! 

 

I don't think she kicks that high now.  If she did, she would pull her hamstring for sure.

This old photo made Linda a little teary.  A friend of hers was dying of cancer so her 4 kids moved in with her while the friend was in Hospice and then eventually passed away.  This was little Brian. She's thinks it's around 1992 or 93. Wonder where he is today??

Blue Eyes

You wouldn't know it by a lot of Penny's photos, but she is a very happy toddler.  When Penny is at home, she laughs and plays and smiles and giggles.  When she is around a lot of people in a crowd, she can go all stone-faced.  Linda snapped this at church on Friday night.  Don't you love how the blue dress makes Penny's eyes look so pretty? 

Bruise Medicine

In all the years Linda has been teaching Body Pump, today was the first time she has ever hurt herself.  She's taught before with a sore back, knee and shoulder, but none of those injuries were from Pump.  It's not a bad injury or anything even dramatic, but it is hurting a bit.

See that bruise on her finger?  She smashed it between two plates. (Not the eating kind of plates.  The kind of plates you put on the end of a barbell.)  Three of her friends have done the same thing with dumbbells resulting in way, way worse injuries: crushed hands, blood and surgery.  This is just a minor bruise and definitely not serious.  Even though it hurt pretty bad when she smashed her finger, she pretended in front of the class that she didn't do anything out of the ordinary. It happened between the triceps and biceps track, so holding onto the bar for curls with a neutral face wasn't easy.  She's glad she taught Body Combat first because making a tight fist for an hour wouldn't have been fun.

She's thinking the only way it would feel better is if she wrapped it around a cold cup of Sweet Frog frozen yogurt.  Lots of candy toppings might make the bruise fade even more.  She even has the remainder of a gift certificate to use.  

Since Monday night is her non-teaching night, she'll be going straight after her 5:00 class is done.  What's better than Sweet Frog for dinner?   Sweet Frog with lots of toppings!!

Natural Light

For once I was really cooperative for a photo shoot.  The natural light was so pretty coming in from the window that Linda wanted to practice with her camera again.  Having her 5' away instead of right up in my face with her iPhone (and flash) makes a huge difference.  I'm much more relaxed and less likely to look away from the camera.

I can't believe the Don King hair is already growing back so fast.  I was just groomed last month. You can also see that I've lost weight.  One pound doesn't seem like much, but when you go from 7.2 to 6.2 pounds, that's a huge difference.  Only one more to go before I'm at my goal weight 

What a hoot

...At least she thought it was a fake owl.  Linda went out to relax on the deck a few minutes ago and saw that the trickster owl was now perched under the tree.

Tierney is probably the most photogenic person ever.  In her entire life, there might have been a total of 2 pictures of her that were not amazing. It's no wonder that she's been asked to model for photographers a whole bunch of times.  (Linda would post the older photos, but she has no idea where they are saved on her laptop.)  Yesterday, she did another shoot for a friend who is building their portfolio.  Linda was there too so they could do some Mother/Daughter pictures.  Linda snapped these with her iPhone.  Once the real copies get edited, they will be even better.  They matched their clothes. It was super easy since both Tier and Linda love nautical colors.

Linda should have put on some of Tier's red lipstick.  She is going to look washed out next to Tier's bright face.  Maybe her lips could be Photoshopped red??

Nature: part 2 and the heat

Today, Linda found another bird nest.  This one is on under the deck.  In past years, it's been a popular spot for nests, although she has no idea why.  We've always had dogs, and the birds fly away from the nest every time we go outside.

She is kind of proud of herself for taking the nest stuffing out of the dryer vent yesterday.  She still has to do the part inside the house that comes out of the back of the dryer.  Taking it off where it goes into the wall is easy, but she can't move the dryer by herself.  It's shoved in a really tight spot and is pressed to the wall on one side and the washer on the other.  In order to unhook it, she will have to pull in out enough to jump down there behind it.  The problem will be jumping back out, so she is going to wait for help. 

In part 2 of Nature freakouts, Linda got so excited when she saw a large bird on our neighbors deck.  She ran inside to get the camera with the long telephoto lens and snapped a photo before it flew away.  After she looked at the display on the camera, she realized it was a plastic owl.  Duh.

The screen porch is actually two houses away from ours, so you can see how she might have mistaken it for a real bird.  While she was out there, she took a photo of Chim in the yard.  He looked so much like Snickers in the shot it made her a little sad.

If your keeping up on the pill drama, Linda stopped giving them to him when she found another pill on the bedroom floor earlier today.  She is guessing he never actually swallowed one.  This afternoon she walked the grid to make sure all the pills were off the floor.  Inch by inch, every corner of the floors were mopped and vacuumed.

Linda decided not to go to her towns little festival this afternoon.  This is the first year she has missed it in forever.  1) It's hot out.  2) She is tired from teaching.  3) There is a weird pain on the top of her foot that is coming and going for no reason.  4)  It's hot out.

She might go tomorrow after church. The craft fair is wonderful.  Each year she treats herself to a special treat.  It's uually a hand-made piece of jewelry, a tote or purse or some kind of fun treat for us.
