Scooby Solves Another Mystery

When Linda was a little girl she had a cat named Scooby-Do. It was one of her favorite cartoons and since she didn't have a dog, her black kitten was Scooby-Do. Another Scooby has made the news in Paris, France. In an unprecedented move, a Judge put the dog on the witness stand to testify during a trial. Scooby was there when her 59-year old owner was murdered. Scooby "barked furiously" when the suspect was bought into the court room. I'm trying to find out if the suspect was convicted based on the dogs testimony. If he was, they might have to give Scooby a new identify and put him into a safe-house for his protection.

On Your Mark, Get Set....

Why didn't I know about this race before it happened? We so could have used the prize money! On August 31, the fourth annual PETCO Unleashed National Chihuahua Race took place in San Diego. Tiger won the race, reclaiming his title from his 2006 win. Over 2,900 competed to race in the finals. I am so going into training for next year's competition. I'm already fast as lighting since I have to run away from Chip cat when she chases me down the hall.

Could it be the OgoPogo?

OK, now I'm really scared. I love mysterious stories and legends, but this one is not only mysterious, it is very sad too. The legend might be true about a monster lurking at the bottom of Lake Somerset (Pa.) Michael Carley and Roslyn Willkow were playing with their 66-pound English Staffordshire bull terrier named King. Michael was throwing a stick into the water and King would swim out and fetch it. Right before their eyes in only waist deep water, King was pulled under the water and totally disappeared without a struggle. They swam out after the dog and dove down searching down into the lake bottom and all around the area he disappeared. As you can tell by the photo, King is a young 3 year old who is very strong and physical. They still can't imagine what could have happened to him. Local fisherman and townspeople say there are big pike and muskie swimming in the 260 plus acre lake, but none that could pull a dog that size down. I'm never swimming in the streams by our house. I'm so little a tad pole could pull me under!

X-Ray-ted

Remember a few weeks ago when I got sick and had to go to the vet? The Dr. thought I swallowed something and it was stuck in my belly. I had to have an x-ray and then a bunch of blood tests. They didn't see anything abnormal, but some dogs are not so lucky. Here are the top ten most common items surgically removed from pets, according to Veterinary Pet Insurance:

1. Socks
2. Underwear
3. Panty Hose
4. Rocks
5. Balls
6. Chew Toys
7. Corn Cobs
8. Bones
9. Hair Ties/Ribbons
10. Sticks

Some other items vets have found are batteries, toy cars, baby bottle nipples and pagers. Last week I wrote about that dog who swallowed 13 golf balls. I hope that dog had surgery to remove the balls and didn't have to "pass" them!

Close Call

Last evening Linda took me out on the wooded trail by our house. I was in my front pack carrier, and a good thing too! We were walking along enjoying the beautiful forest when a big red fox came running across the path right in front of us! If I would have been on my leash he might have snatched me and kept running. I almost wet myself, right inside the carrier! A while back, in the span of 1 week, a rapid fox bit 3 children playing in their yard. Right on the same trail we walk on! Now that we don't have big Snicker's to protect us, Linda is going to carry a big huge walking stick as a weapon. You never know what lurks in the forest, maybe one day we'll catch a glimpse of the elusive Sasquatch.

Pug of War

How utterly fabulous is this costume? Halloween is just around the corner and wouldn't I just be fierce in this costume? The company, Organic Armor specializes in handmade costumes that look like metal but are actually made from soft, lightweight padded rubber! I so have to order this. Linda can dress up as Xena Princess Warrior and we can be twins!!

IPaws

While I'm home alone during the day, Linda sometimes leaves the radio on to keep me company. Little did she know that there is a station devoted just to pets. Dogcatradio.com has live programing just for me. Songs like "Puppy Love", "Hound Dog" and other upbeat songs are part of the programing. There are also other songs written just for us from www.dogtunes.com. Titles include "Dog Day Afternoon", "Dixie Dog" and "Popcorn Paws". Popular segments include "The Mutt Hour" along with exercise, nutrition and training shows. One small problem. My ears are so big I'm afraid the headphones will get lost in there!
